A weekend walk with a film camera
2026-10-24
I took the old Pentax out for a walk on Saturday, one roll of film and no particular plan. Thirty-six exposures sounds like a lot until you start thinking about each one, and then it feels like not nearly enough.
The thing I keep coming back to with film is the waiting. You do not see the photo when you take it, so you have to trust your own judgment and move on. Two weeks later the scans come back and half of them are not what I expected — a few are better, a few are worse, and one or two are genuinely surprising.
This roll had one frame I really liked: a street corner in the late afternoon, long shadows, a cyclist going past at exactly the wrong moment and somehow making the picture better. That one frame was worth the whole walk.
